But while Resident Evil—directed by Zach Cregger—has been getting a steady stream of updates, Street Fighter has been surprisingly quiet ever since the last trailer.

The showdown nobody expected to see like this
The teaser is short, but it packs a punch.
The footage shows an intense clash between Ryu, played by Andrew Koji, and a CGI version of Blanka portrayed by none other than Jason Momoa. Watching over it all is M. Bison, played by Dustin Dalmachian, who appears to be orchestrating the chaos from the shadows.
Longtime fans will immediately spot several classic moves pulled straight from the games: Blanka's signature electric attack—which literally turns one unfortunate prisoner into a walking X-ray image—the famous rolling attack that tears through part of the facility, and even a flying kick that looks lifted directly from the classic Street Fighter manuals.
And Ryu doesn't stay on the defensive for long. The teaser ends with a quick glimpse of his iconic Hadouken—and it looks absolutely devastating.
Wait, who exactly is Blanka?
For readers who aren't deeply familiar with the Street Fighter universe, it's worth taking a moment to talk about Blanka, because his backstory is much more interesting than many people realize.
His real name isn't Blanka at all—it's Jimmy.
He was an ordinary boy traveling on an airplane when a crash left him stranded deep in the Amazon rainforest. Alone, still a child, with no one to help him, he grew up surviving in one of the most hostile environments imaginable.
Even his green skin has an unusual origin story. According to the games, he developed that appearance after constantly covering himself with leaves and vegetation to camouflage himself in the jungle. And his electrical abilities? Those supposedly came from living around electric eels.
The nickname "Blanka" also carries a symbolic meaning, tied to how local people saw him: different, mysterious, almost like a legend of the jungle.
So Blanka was never just "the green guy who shoots electricity."
At its core, his story is about survival pushed to the extreme—a boy transformed by nature into something entirely different.
Momoa's version is a huge departure from 1994
This is where things get interesting.
Fans who remember the 1994 Street Fighter movie will notice a major shift in how the character is portrayed. Back then, Blanka was more sympathetic—almost a victim of circumstance—with the actor covered in green paint and heavy prosthetic makeup.
Jason Momoa's take, however, seems to be heading in the opposite direction.
This Blanka feels feral, mischievous, and far more dangerous. It's a much more aggressive reinterpretation of the character, and the teaser gives off that energy from start to finish.
What else can we expect from the movie?
The film is set in 1993 and follows Ken (Noah Centineo), Chun-Li (Callina Lung), and Ryu as they enter the World Warrior Tournament organized by M. Bison himself.
And the cast is packed with fan favorites. Characters like Akuma, Dhalsim, Cammy, Vega, E. Honda, and Zangief are all expected to appear, brought to life by a diverse ensemble cast.
